Abstract.
Full inflation persistence, as associated to a unit root process, would involve important
consequences for macroeconomic and financial modelling and for policy evaluation. However, usual
unit root tests are far to provide a general evidence against this hypothesis. The approach here
implemented consider that a unit root in the inflation rate requires full monetary accomodation.
The paper performs joint test of both nulls of a unit root in the inflation rate and full
monetary accomodation, using new or recently proposed statistics. It is found that tests of this
joint hypothesis actually allows for a more general rejection of a non stationary inflation
process within the OECD countries.
