Economic policy analysis in the RBC model with labor market search
Abstract.
The Real Business Cycle (RBC) model with labor market search is extended to account for employment and
capital taxation, and hiring subsidies. We calibrate the model on US data and analyze the deadweight loss
of payroll and capital taxes and the impact of subsiding hirings. The elimination of employment taxes is
found to be more beneficial for the households than the elimination of the capital tax. In addition, the
magnitude of the effects suggested by the model is large. Then, we show that subsiding hirings according to
4.2% of the US output is optimal : we find that is offsets the deadweight loss related to employment and
capital taxation in US.
